Robin Capecci - Paintings & Drawings
“Where the Spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.” This quote by Leonardo da Vinci describes my experience when creating my artwork, as well as anything can. My artwork comes from deep within my heart. The inspiration can come from something seen, words heard or read, music, or thoughts and remembrances in my mind. I usually see the completed piece in my mind, often titled, well before I ever sit down to do the work. Then I do my best to translate my mind’s image into the work itself, but I must always call upon the inspiration still within my heart if it is to be successful. I have found, that I cannot be hurried or trying to work it into a busy day. I do use photographs or objects if they will help me. A lot of my work is a composite of those tools combined with enhanced images from my mind.
I have not, as of yet, taken classes or studied art. I discovered my ability to draw at about age 6. I first tried oil paint at 17 and knew it was the perfect painting medium for me. I consider my artwork a gift and only do well if I remember that. I sometimes wish I had a profound artist statement concerning color, form, and what I am trying to say to the viewer, but the truth is, I don’t. I simply need to draw and paint. I would still live if I couldn’t do artwork, but I cannot deny it’s necessity and importance to aid in the fulfillment of my life.
