Alexandra Kopp - Paintings and Fiber Art
Artist Statement and Biography
Art by itself is an expression of our minds perception of thought and reality. The expressions of my works are reflections of my own surroundings through everyday life and places that I have visited, seen or touched. I like to draw the viewer into my art and them let them finish the painting in their own thoughts. Mostly, I do landscapes but sometimes I like to wander into the world of still life and florals. I try not to limit myself to one medium and choose my medium based on what I want to convey about the subject. Whatever type of painting I am doing, I look for an emotional response to the artwork. I like a piece of art that makes you feel something. The inspiration for my artwork comes from the great Impressionists painters.
Biography
I am a Maryland artist living in Harford County. My art education consists of painting classes at Harford Community College as well as Design classes at Towson University. I have also taken workshops with local artists and nationally known artists. I am currently taking classes at Zoll’s Studio with nationally recognized artist, Carol Lee Thompson. I have always loved to create; and painting is my passion. I enjoy both oil and water media, but for completely different reasons. I find oil painting contemplative because I can constantly adjust and keep redefining the painting. There is always something to adjust and I find this both relaxing and also meditative. I find myself drawn to watermedia for the exact opposite reason. It is challenging and dynamic – you don’t have a second chance painting with watercolors, and sometimes what you think you are going to paint ends up being something totally different. I find watercolor painting very stimulating.
